Eluned Parrott, Welsh Liberal Democrat South Wales Central Assembly Member, has welcomed the announcement by the Welsh Government and the Welsh Liberal Democrats to provide additional funding allowing preliminary work on the new Adult Mental Health Unit at Llandough to begin.
During budget negotiations between the two parties at the end of 2011, it was agreed that the Welsh Liberal Democrats would form part of the discussion to allocate the additional money given to Wales in the Autumn Statement.
During her statement, the Finance Minister, Jane Hutt said that “an additional £6.8m to accelerate major hospital projects at Ysbyty Glan Clwyd and Llandough.”
Last Friday, Eluned Parrott AM visited Landough Hospital to look at the plans for the new Adult Mental Health Unit.
Eluned Parrott has welcomed the news saying:
“I am very pleased that the Welsh Government and the Welsh Liberal Democrats have been able to allocate additional money for the new Adult Mental Health Unit at Landough Hospital for the people of South Wales.
“The new unit will see a major change in the way that patients with mental health problems are treated, with private rooms, shared gardens and new rehabilitation facilities giving patients a more dignified, soothing and positive experience of in-patient treatment.
“Just last week, I went to see the good work that the staff were doing at the hospital and have a look at their plans for the a new Adult Mental Health Unit. I am very pleased to have been able to agree the additional money with the Welsh Government on this very important unit at the hospital.”
