Wales needs an Aviation Strategy – Eluned Parrott AM

Eluned Parrott AM, Liberal Democrat Shadow Transport Minister has today welcomed the establishment by the First Minister of a Cardiff Airport Task Force, but has reiterated her concerns about the lack of an aviation strategy for Wales. Commenting Eluned said:

“Wales needs an aviation strategy to help both the nation and Cardiff Airport to grow. We hear much about the need to increase the number of flights to Cardiff Airport, but we also need to ask what flights, where and why. Increasing the number of flights taking holiday-makers out of Wales to spend their money elsewhere makes the airport busier, but does nothing for Wales’ wider economy.

“If we want to use the airport to boost the economy, we must focus on attracting the business market and operators who will bring tourists into Wales, such as Vueling who are doing well at attracting Spanish tourists to Wales.

“An aviation strategy for Wales will help ensure that we’re all working to the same targets, and understand what we want from our airports”.
